CMS [Content Management System] - what is it?
Usually when people talk about the CMS system, they talks about a WCMS (Web Content Management System). It is however over time been widely common just to call it CMS, although this name is not very accurate, but merely the "content management" in general.
In short terms, it is a tool which allows you to edit your website via an online interface into your Internet browser (eg. Internet explorer or Firefox) with no requirement of any software installed on your computer. The intention of a CMS system is also that it does not require technical skills or understanding of website design in general, to use such a cms system.
Without the help of a WCMS, it usually requires that you are familiar with techniques such as FTP, HTML, CSS, Javascript and the like. Today many cms systems are so smart and indispensable, even programmers and designers use it to maintain and further develop their own websites. The reason is that productivity is much higher when there is no need to focus on technical issues, codes and manual building content, links, menus, etc. to the website.
